Q.A. BULLETINS

NUMBER FNS-QA-003
PRODUCT 3141 PRINTERS with FINISys Inc. SCANNER UPGRADE
SUBJECT MATCHING MULTIPLE PRINTERS (PROG. 8.3x / 8.4x)
DATE JULY 19, 1996 REV.1

1. OVERVIEW

With the FINISys scanner upgrade matching of multiple printers has proven very successful and productive. This bulletin describes the procedures that must be followed to obtain printer matching.

2. MATCHING PROCEDURES

2.1. PAPER MATRIX (TDP C/M)

Each printer must have a paper matrix established individually. This is different from the Gretag recommendations (but it works!). Establishing a paper matrix on each printer will take all individual printer components (Filter Unit, Pre-filters, Light Integrator, Lens, Filter Measuring Block) into account. Once a valid Paper Matrix exists, the afore mentioned components MAY NOT be swapped with another printer without establishing a new matrix!

2.2. BASIC SLOPE

Each Printer should have its own Basic Slope established. This will adapt the printer slope behaviour individually. The basic slope is primarily the Scanner Slope, and does not change much from one printer to the next (with the FINISys scanner), unless a problem exists. (See FNS-QA-002)

2.3. FILM PARAMETER DATA

Once Paper Matrix and Basic Slope have been established, the individualities of each printer are compensated for (and hidden away), and each printer should now be able to run with the exact same filmchannel data (i.e. NOD, MAD, RET and Slopes). If this is not the case, check first 2.1. and 2.2. above, as there is no actual indicator that proves that a PMX or TDP0 was acually run on that particular printer.
