PRODUCT UPGRADE FOR 3139 / 3140 / 3141 / 3142 PRINTERS

DESCRIPTION OF MODIFICATION

This modification replaces the incandescent bulbs used in the paper light barriers on Gretag printers with solid state devices that have virtually unlimited life expectancy. A special circuit allows plugging in the (uncoded) connector in either polarity without damage to the transmitter.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Failure of a light bulb causes production downtime and the replacement part (bulb p/n 30.90.67) costs more than $120.- ! (to repair just one transmitter). Weak transmitters cause intermittant problems, downtime and paper waste.

ADVANTAGES OF THE LIGHT BARRIER MODIFICATION

Competitive ONE-TIME (!) replacement cost (all eight transmitters in a printer can be upgraded for just $192.-). Production downtime due to troubleshooting and repair of light barrier failures and malfunctions is eliminated. No more intermittent paper path problems once modification is installed. Phantom paper jams and paper transport malfunctions at power-up will be a thing of the past.
