| SUBJECT | Preventing damage to Pre-Filter |

1. OVERVIEW
The Photofinishing Lab mentioned in the Credits has discovered a potential problem that can cause the Pre-Filter used with the FINISys scanner upgrade to crack under heat stress when printlamp voltage adjustments are done in the lamphouse.
Normally the Filters in the Filter Unit are never fully opened during printing and no damage should be expected to the Pre-Filter. However, when the printlamp voltage or the FIMES voltage is adjusted, using the OCLV command in MTEST, the 3 filters of the Filter Unit are fully retracted, allowing the Pre-Filter to heat up excessively, potentially causing damage to the Pre-Filter.
2. PROCEDURE
To avoid excessive heat build-up during described adjustments, the Pre-Filter should be removed temporarily from its position above the Light-Integrator prior to performing the necessary calibrations in the Lamphouse.
Insure that the filter is re-installed after completion of the adjustments. (If the filter is missing, expect dark and red prints.)

Consult the FINISys Inc. Technical Bulletin FNS-3141-002 for detailed description of Lamphouse adjustments.
