MODIFICATION DESCRIPTION

The FINISys INC. Paper Transport Anti "Bomb" System (ABS) checks for all possible incidents of paper transport malfunctions, some of which would result in production "bombs", others would cause damage to hardware (such as B-Roller or Knife Mechanism). The ABS modification will:

• Prevent printing when an undetected Paper Jam exists (the printer seems to operate, but no paper is advanced).
• Prevent printing without paper markers (bad operator recovery after a Paper Marker Failure or Printer / BMC interface malfunction).
• Monitor the position of the mask flap (and prevent exposures with the flap disengaged). A separate monitoring switch is used.
• Detect and minimize results of Paper Jams during paper threading.
• Detect and minimize results of Paper Jams during paper cut.
• Prevent damage to the knife mechanism if a paper jam exists at the knife area (including manual activation of the knife).
• Monitor the position of the threading arms in the Take-up magazine. This will eliminate the need to advance paper into the magazine to release the arms, resulting in an estimated shortening of the leader waste by 5 foot (minimum) each splice. No modification of individual paper magazines is required.
• Limit automatic blank paper movements to 5.5 ft. (which eliminates incidents such as "sucking in paper" when a false paper end condition exists).
• Indicate at the computer screen which error occurred (when used with program version 8.3x or 8.4x ; program users 8.2x or lower should order the ABS LED Indicator Module).
• Turn off the film winder motor when film end condition is detected. This will increase the life of a very high cost maintenance item.
• Note: Use of Punch Locking Mechanism (12-12101-00), Marker Position Monitor (12-12201-00) and the Paper Light Barrier Reliability Kit (12-15100-00) are recommended.
